VOTING INFORMATION
People can register to vote during early voting but they have to present a photo ID and a piece of mail such as a utility bill that has their name and address on it, said Debbie Mace, director of elections for Burke County.
People can register when early voting starts on Oct. 19 at any of the early voting sites throughout the county. However, a voter who’s already registered to vote can’t change anything on their registration during early voting, she said.
Early voting sites are:
» Board of Elections Office S. Sterling St., Morganton
» Burke County Senior Center on Green Street, Morganton
» Glen Alpine Town Hall on Pitts Street
» Rutherford College Town Hall on Malcolm Boulevard
» Hildebran Library/Senior Center on Main Avenue West
Early voting is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday from Oct. 19 through Nov. 3 and on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Election Day is Nov. 7
Voters in the city of Morganton are reminded that they will vote for two candidates, one for District 3 and one for District 4, regardless of which district they reside.
Voters in the town of Valdese are reminded they will vote for mayor and three ward seat candidates.
Also on the ballot will be the Alcohol Referendum
Voters will get a chance to decide on countywide alcohol sales. The questions that will be on the ballot are whether to allow county ABC stores, beer and wine sales and liquor by the drink.
Also, voters in the town of Rhodhiss will decide on whether to allow beer and wine sales in the municipality.
Those with additional questions can call the Burke County Board of Elections at 828-764-9010.
