Every Wednesday at the corner of Green Street and Avery Avenue, residents will find a variety of fruits, vegetables, meats and crafts that are grown and made locally in Burke County by multiple vendors at the Morganton Farmer’s Market.

Many turned out Wednesday to shop around for their groceries and support local farmers and their businesses.

The market operates two days a week — Wednesday from 2-6 p.m. at 111 N. Green St. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, at 300 Beach St. in Morganton.

EBT and SNAP benefits are now being accepted to purchase foods at the farmer’s market with the help of grant from RAFI-USA — the Rural Advancement Foundation International — and the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project, according to a previous News Herald story.

Shoppers are only allowed to use their EBT and SNAP benefits at the Beach Street location on Saturdays.

For more information on the Morganton farmer’s Market, visit or their Facebook page “Morganton Farmers Market”.
