WISE, Va. – The Catawba women's volleyball team fell to UVA Wise 3-0 on the road on Saturday afternoon.

The Catawba Indians dropped to 9-6 on the season and 5-6 in South Atlantic Conference play, while the Cavaliers improved to 8-7 overall and 6-5 in conference matches.

Senior libero Riley Hill finished with 12 digs. Madi McIlwain recorded a solo block and a block assist. Camden Bizot produced 13 assists, and Maggie Ayers landed six attacks.

UVA Wise played sharp defense and delivered an efficient attack to take the first set 25-10.

Six different Catawba Indians recorded a kill and Romey Gaeta served an ace to pull the blue within two, as the Cavaliers led the second stanza 15-13. The hosts, however, pulled away to win the frame 25-17.

The momentum stayed with the Cavaliers in the third set as they landed 14 kills to close the match 25-10, forcing Catawba to finish the weekend with a split.

The Catawba Indians will continue the road stretch by traveling to Coker on Saturday, October 9, for a 6 p.m. start.
