MORGANTON, NC -- On September 10, 2026, shortly after 6:00 p.m., officers with the Morganton Department of Public Safety conducted a traffic stop on East Meeting Street that resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of suspected methamphetamine and other controlled substances.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Amy Lynn Penley for an observed traffic violation. During the course of the stop, officers developed probable cause to conduct further investigation.
The investigation resulted in the discovery of approximately 32.1 grams of suspected methamphetamine, along with additional suspected controlled substances, drug paraphernalia, and prohibited weapons.
Penley was taken into custody and received a $50,500 bond.
